Dashboard
Your at-a-glance overview of what needs attention across your farm.
The dashboard is the first thing you see when you sign in to HorseBook. It gives you a quick summary of what needs attention, what's coming up, and shortcuts to the things you do most.
Greeting and Overview
At the top of the dashboard, you'll see a personalized greeting along with a summary of your farm: total horses, upcoming events, and any items that need your attention.
Attention Items
The attention section highlights things that need action soon. These are pulled automatically from across your records:
- Expiring documents — Coggins tests, health certificates, or insurance policies approaching their expiration date
- Overdue medical care — vaccines, deworming, farrier visits, or dental exams past their recommended schedule
- Unreviewed documents — files in your inbox that haven't been assigned to a horse yet
- Upcoming foaling windows — mares within their expected foaling date range
Each attention item links directly to the relevant record so you can take action without hunting through menus.
Upcoming Events
A snapshot of your next several calendar events, showing the event type, horse, date, and time. Click any event to see full details or jump to the calendar view.
Quick Actions
The dashboard includes shortcuts to your most common tasks:
- Add Horse — open the new horse form
- Upload Document — go to Smart Upload
- Add Expense — log a new expense
- Add Event — create a calendar event
New User Experience
If you're just getting started and haven't added any horses yet, the dashboard shows a welcome message with guided steps to set up your farm:
- Add your first horse
- Upload a document (like a Coggins test or registration)
- Set up your contacts
Once you have horses and records in the system, the dashboard automatically switches to the standard overview.
