Contacts

Manage your network of vets, farriers, trainers, and other equine professionals.

HorseBook keeps all your equine-related contacts in one place. Store contact details for your vet, farrier, trainer, and everyone else involved in your horses' care, then link them to specific horses so the right people are always a tap away.

Contact Types

Each contact is assigned a type that describes their role:

  • Owner — horse owner or co-owner
  • Emergency — emergency contact for the farm or a specific horse
  • Vet — veterinarian
  • Farrier — hoof care provider
  • Chiropractor — equine chiropractor
  • Trainer — riding or horse trainer
  • Barn Manager — farm or barn manager
  • Other — any other contact that doesn't fit the above

Contact Fields

Each contact record includes:

  • Name — the person's name
  • Business Name — their business or practice name (optional). Useful for contacts who are both an individual and a business (e.g., "Dr. Sarah Miller" at "Valley Equine Clinic")
  • Type — one of the eight types listed above
  • Phone — phone number
  • Email — email address
  • Address — physical address
  • Notes — additional information

Adding a Contact

  1. Go to the Contacts section
  2. Click Add Contact
  3. Fill in their details and select the contact type
  4. Save the contact

Contacts are available farm-wide once created. You can then link them to specific horses.

Linking Contacts to Horses

A contact can be linked to one or more horses. For example, your vet might be linked to all your horses, while a specific trainer is only linked to one.

To link a contact to a horse:

  1. Open the horse's profile
  2. Go to the Contacts section
  3. Click Add Contact and select an existing contact
  4. Set whether this is a primary contact for the horse

Primary Contacts

When a contact is marked as primary for a horse, they appear prominently on the horse's profile. This is useful for designating the horse's primary vet, primary farrier, and so on. Each contact type can have one primary per horse.

Using Contacts Elsewhere

Contacts you've created appear as options throughout the app:

  • When recording medical treatments, you can select a provider from your contacts
  • When logging expenses, you can select a vendor from your contacts
  • When creating calendar events, you can associate a contact

This keeps your records connected and avoids re-entering the same information.

Tip

Set up your core contacts (vet, farrier, emergency) early. They'll be available as quick selections throughout the app whenever you need to reference a provider or vendor.
