HorseBook for iPhone — a scanner-first field companion for managing your horses on the go.
The HorseBook iOS app is built for the barn, the trailer, and the vet clinic. It is a native SwiftUI app designed around one core idea: your phone is the device you have when you receive a document. Point your camera at a Coggins test, a registration paper, or a feed store receipt, and HorseBook reads it, extracts the data, and creates the record for you.
Four-Tab Layout
The app is organized into four tabs at the bottom of the screen:
- Today — A monthly calendar showing upcoming events. Tap a date to see what is scheduled. Add custom events like vet visits, farrier appointments, or show dates.
- Scan — The document scanner. Opens your camera or photo library, captures the document, and sends it through AI extraction. This is the fastest way to create records.
- Horses — Your full horse list with search. Tap a horse to see its detail view with tabs for overview, medical, reproduction, husbandry, documents, and contacts.
- Farm — A dashboard with summary cards, recent expenses, recent contacts, farm-level documents, and access to settings.
Scanner-First Philosophy
Most horse record apps ask you to fill out forms. HorseBook asks you to take a photo. The scanner handles Coggins tests, health certificates, registration papers, brand inspections, genetic tests, insurance documents, receipts, and more. AI identifies the document type, extracts every relevant field, and lets you review before saving.
This means common tasks like adding a new horse or logging an expense start with the camera, not a blank form.
What Is on Mobile vs. Web
The iOS app covers everything most horse owners need day-to-day. A few power-user features are available only on the web dashboard:

Requirements
- iPhone running iOS 17 or later
- An internet connection for scanning and syncing (horse data is cached for offline viewing)
- A HorseBook account (sign up on the web or in the app)
