Track mare reproduction on iOS — cycles, breeding, pregnancy checks, foaling, and progeny.
The Reproduction tab appears on a horse's detail view when the horse is a mare. It covers the full breeding cycle from heat detection through foaling and progeny tracking.

Stallion management (collections, breeding bookings, compatibility assessments) is available on the web dashboard only. The iOS app focuses on mare reproduction because mare owners who breed and foal far outnumber stallion managers, and the mare workflow maps well to quick mobile entry. Stallion management involves complex multi-step forms better suited to a full screen.
Cycles
Track your mare's estrous cycles to identify patterns and predict future heats:
- Cycle start date — when heat was first observed
- Cycle end date — when the mare went out of heat
- Intensity — mild, moderate, or strong signs
- Notes — behavioral observations or teasing results
Over time, cycle history helps you predict when the mare will be receptive for breeding.
Breeding
Log each breeding event with details:
- Date — when the breeding occurred
- Stallion — name of the stallion (can link to a horse in your account or enter a name)
- Method — live cover or artificial insemination
- Technician/Vet — who performed or assisted
- Notes — any additional details
Multiple breeding attempts within a cycle are tracked separately.
Pregnancy Checks
After breeding, log ultrasound and palpation results:
- Check date — when the examination was done
- Result — positive, negative, or inconclusive
- Days since breeding — calculated automatically
- Vet — who performed the check
- Notes — findings, twin observations, measurements
Positive pregnancy checks update the mare's status on the horse list with a pregnancy badge.
Foaling
When the mare foals, record the event:
- Foaling date — when the foal was born
- Foal details — sex, color, and any initial observations
- Complications — note any issues during delivery
- Vet present — whether a vet attended
The foal can be added as a new horse in your account and linked to the mare as its dam.
Progeny
The progeny section lists all foals produced by this mare. Each entry links to the foal's own horse record if it exists in your account. This gives you a complete production history at a glance.
Quick Actions
The reproduction tab includes quick action buttons for common tasks:
- Log Cycle — jump straight to adding a new cycle entry
- Record Breeding — add a breeding event
- Add Pregnancy Check — log an ultrasound or palpation result
- Record Foaling — document a birth
These buttons save taps by opening the relevant form directly rather than navigating through menus.
