Medical Records
Track medical records and health issues for each horse on the iOS app.
The Medical tab on a horse's detail view lets you track veterinary records and ongoing health issues. Every Coggins test, vaccination, dental float, and lameness note lives here.
Medical Records
The records list shows all medical entries for the horse, sorted by date with the most recent first. Each record shows:
- Type — vaccination, dental, deworming, Coggins, surgery, examination, injury, farrier, chiropractic, or other
- Date — when the treatment or service occurred
- Provider — the vet or other provider
- Summary — a brief description of what was done
Tap a record to see its full details, including any attached documents or notes.
Adding a Medical Record
Tap the + button on the records list to add a new medical record manually. Fill in:
- Record type
- Date
- Provider (select from your contacts or enter a name)
- Description
- Notes
Tip
The fastest way to add a medical record is to scan the document. Scan a Coggins test or vet invoice from the Scan tab, and HorseBook creates the medical record with all the fields pre-filled.
Scanning Medical Documents
When you scan a Coggins test, health certificate, or other medical document, the AI extracts the relevant fields and creates a medical record automatically. The scanned image is attached to the record so you always have the original on file.
Health Issues
The health issues list tracks ongoing or chronic conditions. Unlike one-time medical records, health issues represent persistent concerns that you want to monitor over time:
- Allergies
- Chronic lameness
- Recurring conditions
- Dietary restrictions due to health
- Past injuries still under management
Each health issue shows its status (active, resolved, monitoring) and when it was last updated.
Adding a Health Issue
Tap the + button on the health issues section to log a new issue. Provide:
- Title — a short name for the issue (e.g., "Left front navicular")
- Status — active, resolved, or monitoring
- Description — details about the condition
- Date identified — when the issue was first noticed
You can update the status and add notes over time as the condition changes.
