What is HorseBook?

HorseBook is a horse management platform for small farms and individual breeders. It helps you track health records, manage breeding programs, scan and digitize documents with AI, log expenses, and keep every detail of your horses' care organized. It's designed for operations managing anywhere from 1 to 50 horses.

HorseBook is built for:

How does the free trial work?

Every new account gets a 14-day free trial with full access to all features. No credit card is required to start. During the trial you can add horses, scan documents, track expenses, and use every feature without restrictions.

Can I use both the web and the iOS app?

Yes. Your HorseBook account works on both platforms. Sign up on one, use both — your data syncs automatically.

Use the web for in-depth management, reports, and editing. Use the iOS app for quick scanning and record creation when you're at the barn.

What documents can the AI scanner recognize?

The AI scanner recognizes and extracts data from:

• Coggins tests (EIA) — lab, test date, results, accession number
• Health certificates (CVIs) — vet info, travel dates, origin, destination
• Registration papers — horse identity, pedigree, breed, registration number
• Vet receipts and invoices — provider, services, costs, dates
• Vaccination records — vaccine type, date administered, next due
• Farrier receipts — service type, cost, date

If the AI doesn't recognize a specific document type, it still saves the file as an attachment and extracts what it can.

How accurate is the AI extraction?

AI extraction is very accurate for printed and clearly legible documents. It reads text, identifies fields, and fills in the correct data the vast majority of the time. That said, you should always review the extracted data before confirming, especially for critical fields like:

• Coggins test results
• Dates and expiration dates
• Financial amounts
• Registration numbers

The review step is built into every scan workflow so you can catch and correct any errors before the record is saved.

Is my data secure?

Yes. HorseBook takes data security seriously:

• Hosted on Supabase — a trusted infrastructure platform with enterprise-grade security
• Row Level Security (RLS) — your data is isolated at the database level. No other user can access your records.
• Encrypted in transit and at rest — all data is encrypted using industry-standard protocols
• SOC 2 compliant infrastructure — the underlying platform meets SOC 2 security standards

Your horse records, documents, and personal information are private to your account.

What works offline on the iOS app?

The iOS app caches your horse profiles and recent records for offline viewing. You can browse your horses and see their details without an internet connection.

However, these features require an active internet connection:

• Document scanning — AI extraction runs on the server
• Creating or editing records — changes sync to the server
• Syncing new data — pulling updates from other devices

When you're back online, any pending changes sync automatically.

How do I export my data?

You can export your data as CSV files from the web dashboard. Go to the section you want to export (horses, medical records, expenses, etc.) and look for the Export option. CSV files can be opened in Excel, Google Sheets, or any spreadsheet application.

What's the difference between web and iOS features?

Both platforms give you access to your horses and records, but they're designed for different contexts:

Web dashboard — the full management hub:

• All record types and editing capabilities
• Bulk document upload (Smart Upload)
• Detailed reports and filtering
• Stallion management (collections, bookings, compatibility)
• Full calendar and contact management
• Export and advanced settings

iOS app — the field companion:

• Document scanning with VisionKit camera
• Quick record creation from scans
• Horse profiles and record viewing
• Expense logging and receipt scanning
• Mare reproduction tracking (cycles, breeding, pregnancy, foaling)
• Calendar and reminders

The general rule: if you're at a desk, use the web. If you're at the barn, use the app.

Can I delete my account and all data?

Yes. Go to Settings and select Delete Account. This permanently removes your account and all associated data including horses, records, documents, and uploaded files. This action cannot be undone.
